Two ships carrying a total of 35,000 tonnes of rice have safely arrived at Chattogram port, marking a significant step in meeting the country’s rice supply needs.

The first shipment, carried by the MV Tanais Dream, brought in 22,500 tonnes of boiled rice from India. This rice was imported under an international tender agreement, as confirmed by the Ministry of Food in a press release on Monday.

The second ship, MV Hong Linh 1, delivered 12,500 tonnes of Atap rice from Vietnam. This shipment is part of an ongoing government-to-government (G2G) agreement between Bangladesh and Vietnam. Notably, this marks the second delivery from Vietnam, as an initial consignment of 17,800 tonnes had already arrived in the country. Under the G2G arrangement signed on February 3, Bangladesh is set to import a total of 100,000 tonnes of rice from Vietnam.

As the rice shipments arrive, samples have been subjected to physical testing. Unloading at the port has already begun, ensuring that the imported rice reaches the market without delay, according to the press release.
