The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has been actively promoting the establishment and expansion of food processing industries, with a special focus on millet-based products (referred to as Shree Anna). Through initiatives like the Central Sector Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI), and the Centrally Sponsored PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme, the government is providing financial support across the country, including in North Eastern States and Odisha. These schemes are designed to be demand-driven, rather than region-specific.

The Ministry extends financial assistance to entrepreneurs aiming to set up various food processing ventures, including those dedicated to millet processing, following the guidelines of the respective schemes.

A key element of the PLISFPI is focused on Millet-Based Products (MBP), with a significant financial outlay of Rs. 800 crores. The primary goal of the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Millet-Based Products (PLISMBP) is to boost the use of millets in food products and encourage their value addition. This is achieved by offering incentives to companies manufacturing and selling select millet-based products, both in the domestic and export markets.

As of now, a substantial portion of the Rs. 800 crore allocation for PLISMBP has already been approved—Rs. 793.27 crore—to support 29 applicants. This includes 8 large enterprises and 21 small and medium-sized businesses, which will benefit from this initiative aimed at enhancing the millet processing industry.
